3rd stoplight Q`s and pic request!

Uk spec E30`s never came with these fitted.
I understand they they were slightly different on early to late models, what actually is the difference?
Do they actually blend in with the rear shelf material and if so i take it they are available in different colours or do they just sit on top of the shelf?

Sorry for what may seem like trivial questions but its something i havent come accross before and may be interested in sourcing one for my car.

Pics/associated part numbers would be great if poss :)

What color do you want? Body colored or black/tan?

Early 3rd brake light housings sit on top of the rear deck.

Late housings sit under the rear deck, which is molded over the (ugly as hell) 3rd brake light.

I have both, I should be able to take pics today.

          Maybe.

Ugly cause you see them everyday maybe?
I have never seen one fitted to a UK car and reckon it would be quite cool.
Suppose its like euro grills etc for you guys?

Pics would be great thanks :)

              Hey mate!

The 3rd brake actually sits under the parcel shelf. The shelf itself is molded over it. The shape is like a minature bunker. When I removed my shelf to paint it black I had every intention of returning the 3rd light back into place. Well at the time I couldn't find the brake light. At the same time I had my rear window tinted with limo tint. After I re-installed the shelf you could not see the opening because the window was so dark. I do not plan on putting the light back in. Besides I still can't find the 3rd brake light.

              Cheers

Only on the later cars. The early US brake light is a plastic lump on the rear deck, and is quite ugly IMO.

I really think anyone would think them ugly in comparison to the late body, as in the pics below, cool factor or not...but that is just my opinion, YMMV.

Here is the late body one, as posted by FL318is.

They look much smoother outside, as well. If the early one would qualify as cool, I bet we could send Europe a ton of them!

Gotta love that! I have not recovered mine because I want a late model!

Just goes to show everyone is different. Fortunately, that is allowed everywhere but on R3V. :)

Also confirms what has been said, the early ones are just plain ugly:(
Think my search is about to start for a later one though.

                        Thanks again :)
